Understand roles in an association

Which rights your association role has in clubs and groups below: always one level weaker, and only with verification.

Roles and officesBasic (free)Checked on 30.10.2026

Prerequisites

  • You have a role in the association.

Who may do this?

Only the owner assigns roles (“Assign roles”). Inheritance downwards applies automatically; nobody can change their own role, and the last leader can neither be downgraded nor leave.

Step by step

  1. Know the four roles

Under “Manage”, open the box “What can the roles do?”. Member reads and posts, Moderator also creates events and moderates, Admin edits the organization and manages members, Owner assigns roles and deletes.

  2. One level weaker downwards

Someone who is “Admin” in the association has the rights of a “Moderator” in its clubs. Someone who is “Owner” in the association acts as “Admin” in the subdivision. Manage yes, delete no.

  3. Verification as a precondition

The inherited role only applies in a club while it is verified by your association (and along the whole path). Otherwise the server treats you like an outsider (the feature is not visible to you).

  4. Exception: club data

Financial and consent data such as the dues overview, join answers, leadership minutes, CSV extracts, anniversaries and overview only count with the direct role in the club, never from the association.

  5. Effect in reporting

In content reports the inherited role does not see level 1; it becomes responsible at level 2 (for example if club leadership is biased).

You can find the feature here: /organisation/{slug}/verwalten

Common errors and solutions

I am an association admin and cannot delete anything or assign roles in the club.
This is intended: you act as a moderator there. Only club leadership (owner) may delete and assign roles.
I cannot see a club’s members or reports.
The club is no longer verified by your association, or you only have an inherited role for club data. Ask the club leadership.
I cannot change my own role.
Nobody can; another person with the “Assign roles” right has to do it.

Good to know

  • In groups the same inheritance applies (club moderators act as members there).
