Create groups, departments or clubs under your own club

You create departments, sections, scout troops or teams as groups so that events and posts land where they belong.

AdminBasic (free)Checked on 30.10.2026

Prerequisites

  • In the club (or association) you have at least the Administration role or an office with the role Board / Chair.

Who may do this?

Whoever has the permission “Create groups and sub-units” may create them (administration, leadership or an office with a suitable role). The permission works one level weaker downwards: an association admin has the rights of a moderator in its clubs.

Step by step

  1. Open sub-units

Open “Manage” and there “Sub-units”. Alternatively use the “Groups” tab (Clubs & groups) of the organization.

  2. Start creating

Click “Create group” (for an association “Create club”). The type decides what may sit below it and cannot be changed later.

  3. Check the parent organization

The group belongs to your club. Only organizations in which you at least administer are offered. You are entered as leadership of the group.

  4. Enter details and create

Fill in name, description and joining rule as for the master data or start from a template. The club’s data processing agreement also covers the group; you do not have to accept anything extra.

  5. Set up the group

After “… was created” you can complete the settings right away (“Now”) or later. Each group has its own visibility and its own members, events and posts.

You can find the feature here: /organisation/<kennung>/gruppen

Common errors and solutions

“A group needs a parent club.”
Under “Parent organization” choose your club. A standalone group only works with “No club – standalone group”.
“Creating did not work.”
Check the marked fields (“Please check the marked fields.”) and try again.
The “Create group” button is missing.
You lack the permission to create sub-units. Also, no further level is planned below a group.

Good to know

  • Anyone who joins a group in the club automatically also becomes a member of the club.
  • Groups you create while founding the club are initially visible to members only.
  • Non-public groups are not in the list for outsiders. An association only lists clubs that have confirmed their affiliation.
