Child protection on CLUP.life: notes for parents

What CLUP.life fixes for child accounts, what you set yourself and how to report anything unusual.

PrivacyBasic (free)Checked on 30.10.2026

Prerequisites

  • A child account or the intention to create one

Who may do this?

The protection rules apply to all child accounts and cannot be lifted even by parents. The legal guardian may make the settings.

Step by step

  1. Know the fixed rules

Child accounts are never public and never discoverable in search. Chat, connection requests, profile changes and joining clubs are initially blocked and are approved by you one by one. Child accounts receive no emails and no push notifications; you get copies (see “Alerts about your child”).

  2. Review the settings

Under “Settings → Child accounts” go to the tabs “What my child may do”, “Visibility” and “Communication” and review them, ideally together with your child. “Apply all recommended settings” sets a sensible age profile.

  3. Photos and files

A club may publish pictures of children only with your consent. Posts distributed to social networks never contain recognizable children. Video calls are not recorded.

  4. Report something

For anything unusual your child or you use “Report” on a post, message or club. When it concerns children’s safety we look at once; the reported person never learns who reported.

  5. Get help

Independent help is available from the “Nummer gegen Kummer” (German children’s helpline): 116 111 (free and anonymous).

You can find the feature here: /kinder-und-eltern

Common errors and solutions

I want my child to be able to chat.
Enable “Write messages” and set under “Communication” who may write to them. One parent’s approval is enough.
My child is being harassed.
Report the content or person, block them if needed and talk to the club leadership; if the child is at risk also contact the responsible authorities.

Good to know

  • Under § 72a SGB VIII a club may only record that the enhanced criminal record certificate of carers was inspected, not its content. Direct questions about this to the club leadership.
  • Sponsors are named only with name and logo, marked as sponsoring; they receive no data about your child and show it no advertising.
  • Messages are encrypted on the server but not end-to-end encrypted, so that reported content can be reviewed.
  • The privacy policy is binding; the page “Notes for children and parents” summarizes it in plain language.
