Own access, communication circle and reading along for young people

From the age of 10 you can allow your child their own access, decide who may write to them and openly read along for children aged 10 to 12.

AccountBasic (free)Checked on 06.11.2026

Prerequisites

  • A child profile aged 10 or older
  • You are a legal guardian

Who may do this?

Guardians only. The strictest setting of all guardians applies. Your child sees every setting under “What my parents have set”.

Step by step

  1. Allow access

Open the child profile, tab “Own access and rules”, and choose “Allow own access”. You get a login name and a one-time link that you give to your child.

  2. The child chooses the password

Your child opens the link and chooses their own password. You never know it. If your child forgets it, you create a new link.

  3. Who may write

Choose the circle (nobody except you, released people only, confirmed clubs, clubs) and whether your child may be found in the club. Parents may always write.

  4. Reading along (ages 10 to 12)

You can openly read single chats and small groups. Your child and everyone they chat with see a permanent notice in the chat. Reading along ends at 13. For ages 13 to 15 your child can share a chat with you themselves (“get help”).

  5. Lock or withdraw

“Lock access” signs out all devices immediately. “Withdraw access” turns the profile back into a profile without access.

You can find the feature here: /einstellungen/kinder

Common errors and solutions

“Own access is only possible from the age of 10”
Under 10 you run the child profile for your child; there is no own access.
The child cannot sign in
Check whether the access is locked and whether your child enters the login name (not an email). Otherwise create a new setup link.

Good to know

  • The setup link is valid for 2 days and can be used only once.
  • Reading along never happens secretly.
