Decide on appeals and complaints

Those affected and reporters can contest decisions within 14 days; platform moderation reviews anew.

Prerequisites

  • You have the platform role “Platform moderation” and a second factor.

Who may do this?

Only active platform moderation. If the platform itself made the original decision, a second person reviews (four-eyes principle); if there is no second person, the same one may review and this is recorded.

Step by step

  1. Open appeals

In “Platform moderation” open the tab “Appeals” (“Appeals and complaints”). “Appeal against a measure” and “Complaint by the reporter” appear.

  2. Review the case

Read the “Measure” and the “Original decision (level)” with its reason as well as the appeal text.

  3. Decide

Choose “Overturn decision” (measures are reversed: content restored, suspension lifted; for a complaint the report is reviewed again) or “Decision stands”.

  4. Give the reason

Enter the “Reason (required)” and click “Save”. The person is informed with your reason.

You can find the feature here: /moderation/plattform?tab=einsprueche

Common errors and solutions

“You made this decision yourself. Another person on platform moderation must review the appeal.”
Hand the case over once a second person is available.
“The appeal could not be decided.”
Check the reason and try again; a case already decided is final.

Good to know

  • Appeal: 14 days, once per person, text at least 10 characters, encrypted.
  • In operation a second person is often missing; appeals against platform decisions are then reviewed by the same person (flagged).
